Metal Filters for Validated Pharmaceutical and Food Processes

Pharmaceutical filtration and food processing share a common demand: filter media with stable pore structure, low migration risk, and compatibility with hot wash and steam cycles used for cleaning and sterilisation.

Sintered stainless steel filter elements with electropolished surfaces are often selected for these duties. The sintered structure contains no loose fiber media, adhesives, or polymer layers in the filtration body, which can simplify validation and cleaning discussions compared with some disposable media formats.

CIP cycles at 90°C with caustic and acid wash solutions, followed by SIP at 121–134°C steam, should always be reviewed against the exact element design, gasket material, and cleaning regime.
