SS Sintered Powder Filter Element

Made by isostatic pressing of 316L stainless steel powder, then vacuum sintered at high temperature. No binder, no adhesive — the result is an all-metal rigid structure with interconnected pores through the entire wall thickness.

Pore size is set by powder particle distribution during manufacturing. The finished element's maximum pore size is verified by bubble-point testing per ASTM F316. Test certificates can be provided upon request.

Standard material is 316L. For pharmaceutical API filtration or food-contact service, electropolished elements (Ra ≤ 0.4 µm) are available with traceable surface-finish records. End caps are argon-arc welded in 316L — not brazed — and all welds are visual- and dye-penetrant-inspected before dispatch.

End connections are made to suit the housing: a threaded stud welded to the end cap, an O-ring quick-connect fitting for snap-in cartridge housings, or a large-bore NPT/BSP threaded port for direct inline mounting. A smooth, externally polished finish is available on request — the polished outer surface resists particle build-up and extends the interval between cleanings, useful for vacuum-pump protection, fermentation exhaust, and catalyst-recovery service.

Engineering Advantages of SS Sintered Powder Elements

Bubble-Point Tested Pore Rating

Pore rating verified by bubble-point testing per ASTM F316 — on a spot-check basis or upon customer request. The pore rating is consistent across the entire filtration surface — not a statistical average.

Backwashable and Reusable

Reverse gas pulse, liquid backwash, 5% HNO₃ soak, or ultrasonic cleaning. The sintered metal structure is typically regenerable over repeated cleaning cycles, subject to service conditions and cleaning method.

All-Metal Filtration Structure

No binder or polymer filtration layer is used in the 316L sintered matrix, helping reduce media migration risk in pharmaceutical, food, and semiconductor-related service.

Rated to 400 °C

All-metal construction with no temperature limit from organic binders or seals. Suitable for steam, hot gases, high-temperature solvents, and thermal-cycling service.

Electropolish Option

Ra ≤ 0.4 µm electropolished finish for pharmaceutical GMP. Surface finish records, CoC, and MTRs traceable to each element batch.

Custom Dimensions

Non-standard OD, length, wall thickness, and end-cap configuration to drawing — including a welded threaded stud, an O-ring quick-connect for snap-in housings, or a large-bore NPT/BSP port. Typical lead time 3–5 weeks for custom items.

Smooth External-Polish Finish

A polished outer surface — available on both 316L and titanium elements — resists particle build-up and extends the interval between cleanings, for vacuum-pump protection, exhaust, and catalyst-recovery duty.

Broad Chloride and Organic-Acid Resistance

316L resists FeCl₃, NaCl, MgCl₂, CuSO₄, and BaCl₂ salt solutions, plus acetic, oxalic, and citric acids across the concentration range, including at boiling point. For hot concentrated alkali or hot dilute HCl, where 316L corrodes faster, titanium elements are the alternative.

Applications

Typical Applications for SS Sintered Powder Elements

API Decarburization

Pre-polishing filtration of pharmaceutical active ingredients and solvents. Tightly-controlled pore size limits carbon particle carry-over into product.

1–5 µm · EP finish · CoC

RO Pre-filtration

Security filter upstream of reverse osmosis membranes in water treatment and UPW systems. Backwashable — no cartridge disposal cost.

5–20 µm · 316L · Backwashable

Chemical Intermediate Filtration

Compatible with HNO₃, H₂SO₄, FeCl₃, CuSO₄, acetic and oxalic acids, NaOH, and most organic solvents. Handles process conditions that destroy polymer cartridges.

0.5–20 µm · Acid/alkali resistant

Petroleum Product Polishing

Terminal filtration of refined petroleum products and hydraulic fluids before storage or dispatch. Removes particulate to specification.

5–25 µm · High pressure · 316L

Compressed Gas Filtration

Particle and aerosol removal from N₂, H₂, compressed air, and process gases. Pressure rating depends on wall thickness — heavier wall sections available for higher-pressure lines.

0.22–5 µm · Dry service

Semiconductor Process Gas

Electropolished elements for bulk gas delivery in N₂, Ar, H₂ lines. Low particle-release risk with cleanroom-style packaging available on request.

0.5–2 µm · EP · Clean-pack

Pneumatic Muffler and Flame Arrestor

Sintered wall attenuates pressure pulsations and exhaust noise in pneumatic lines, and arrests flame propagation in fuel-gas and solvent vent lines.

Custom OD · 316L · Reusable

Vacuum and Exhaust Gas Protection

Externally polished elements resist particle build-up on vacuum-pump inlet protection, fermentation exhaust, and catalyst-recovery filtration — extending intervals between cleanings.
