Titanium Porous Components for the Green Hydrogen Value Chain

PEM water electrolysis requires porous titanium components that can simultaneously conduct electrons, allow mass transport of water and gas, and withstand the strongly oxidising acidic environment of the oxygen evolution electrode — operating at 60–80°C in dilute sulfuric acid or deionised water.

Sintered titanium powder filter elements and titanium fiber felt sheets are the two primary materials used as porous transport layers (PTL) in PEM electrolyzers — on the anode side where the corrosion environment is most demanding. Grade 2 titanium's oxide passivation layer provides the necessary long-term stability.

FILTURE supplies PTL materials in sintered titanium fiber felt and woven mesh formats, alongside porous Ti discs and plates — with porosity control from 30% to 80% and thickness from 0.5 mm to 5 mm, to match your stack design specification.

Stack components are held to the tight dimensional tolerances required for cell assembly through our precision CNC machining process, with material certification available through our quality inspection program.

Titanium Porous Materials Across the Electrolyzer Stack

PEM Anode Porous Transport Layer

Sintered Ti powder or Ti fiber felt as PTL on the oxygen evolution side — highest corrosion demand. Controlled porosity and thickness for uniform current distribution and water transport.

Fuel Cell Gas Diffusion Layer

Ti fiber felt as GDL in PEM fuel cells — providing gas transport, water management, and electrical conductivity between the catalyst layer and bipolar plate.
