316L Sintered Mesh Filter Element

Constructed from multiple layers of woven wire mesh, sintered together at high temperature into a single rigid filtration medium. Layers are bonded by sintering — not glue, braze, or mechanical fastening — which eliminates layer delamination under pressure cycling and thermal shock.

The filter rating is set by the weave and aperture of the selected mesh layer — from fine Dutch-weave centre layers giving a consistent, repeatable pore size for ratings down to 1 µm, up to coarser plain-weave or twill-weave layers for nominal ratings up to 5,000 µm. Within its rated aperture, the Dutch-weave construction gives the same pore size at every point on the mesh, not just a statistical average.

Material choice covers the full industrial range: 316L for general duty to 400 °C in air; 310S or an approved inert-gas duty for service up to 600 °C; duplex 2205/2507 for chloride environments; 904L for concentrated acid service; and nickel alloys (Monel 400, Hastelloy C276) for aggressive corrosive media. The approved temperature limit must be confirmed against the alloy, atmosphere, pressure and end-cap construction.

Selection Guide

How to Specify a Sintered Mesh Filter Element

Start with the required particle retention and decide whether surface filtration is appropriate for the process. Then provide the process fluid, operating temperature, pressure, flow rate, allowable differential pressure, housing dimensions, and cleaning method. The required rating should be selected together with filtration area and support construction, rather than from mesh count alone.

For higher solids loading where more area is needed in the same housing, compare a pleated sintered mesh filter element. For depth filtration and high void volume, see the pleated metal fiber felt filter. FILTURE can review the duty for petrochemical, water-treatment, chemical, or hygienic-process applications through a technical RFQ.

Product Features

Key Strengths of the SS Sintered Mesh Design

Multi-Layer Sintered Construction

Outer protective layers, precision filter layer, and support layers are bonded by sintering — no delamination under pressure cycling, hydraulic shock, or temperature swing.

Consistent Filtration Rating

A Dutch-weave centre layer (fine ratings) or plain/twill-weave layer (coarse nominal ratings) provides a uniform pore size across the filtration surface, with consistent particle retention at the rated aperture — no bypass under surge conditions.

Wide Material Range

From standard 316L to Hastelloy C276 — select the alloy for your specific corrosive environment. Mill test certificates and CoC available on request for most grades.

Fully Regenerable

Backwash, ultrasonic cleaning, and chemical soak (acid or alkali) restore flux without structural damage. No layer separation or fibre shedding.

High Temperature Service

316L elements are specified to 400 °C in air. Service up to 600 °C requires 310S or an approved inert-gas duty; final limits depend on the alloy, atmosphere, pressure and end-cap construction.

Custom Aperture and Form

Filter rating 1–5,000 µm, tube OD 20–200 mm, custom end-cap styles, and non-standard lengths all available to drawing.
